Impact of Thermal Behavior on Offset in a High-Q Gyroscope
نویسندگان
چکیده
In this paper, the CFD approach is used to simulate the thermal behavior in a sensitive high-Q gyroscope. The electromagnetically driving wires, in which the alternating current flows, are treated as Joule heat sources in the model. We found that the differences of the temperature, pressure and velocity along the driving direction and transversely across the proof masses increased as the gap height between the proof mass and top glass became smaller. Local pressure gradient is expected to possibly enhance the impact of any imperfect led by MEMS processes or designs on the offset of our tuning fork type gyroscope, which has been experimentally verified. A device with 200um gap gives a two-third offset down compared with that of its counterpart with 50um gap. KeywordsOffset, gyroscope, CFD, pressure gradient

Thermoelastic Damping in Flexural-mode Ring Gyroscopes
This paper provides a comprehensive derivation for thermoelastic damping (TED) in flexural-mode ring gyroscopes, in light of recent efforts to design high rateresolution gyroscopes. Imposing an upper limit on the attainable mechanical noise floor of a vibratory gyroscope, thermoelastic damping in a ring gyroscope is extracted from the equations of linear thermoelasticity. By assuming that it is...
متن کاملDynamical Behavior of a Rigid Body with One Fixed Point (Gyroscope). Basic Concepts and Results. Open Problems: a Review
The study of the dynamic behavior of a rigid body with one fixed point (gyroscope) has a long history. A number of famous mathematicians and mechanical engineers have devoted enormous time and effort to clarify the role of dynamic effects on its movement (behavior) – stable, periodic, quasi-periodic or chaotic. The main objectives of this review are: 1) to outline the characteristic features of...
متن کاملSensitivity Enhancement of Ring Laser Gyroscope Using Dielectric-Graphene Photonic Crystal
In a ring laser gyroscope, due to the rotation and the Sagnac effect, a phase difference between the two counter-propagating beams is generated. In this device, the higher phase difference between these two beams causes the better the interference pattern detection, and thus the sensitivity is increased. In this paper, the effect of inserting a dielectric-graphene photonic crystal inside a ring...
متن کاملA Novel Offset Cancellation Based on Parasitic-Insensitive Switched-Capacitor Sensing Circuit for the Out-of-Plane Single-Gimbaled Decoupled CMOS-MEMS Gyroscope
This paper presents a novel parasitic-insensitive switched-capacitor (PISC) sensing circuit design in order to obtain high sensitivity and ultra linearity and reduce the parasitic effect for the out-of-plane single-gimbaled decoupled CMOS-MEMS gyroscope (SGDG). According to the simulation results, the proposed PISC circuit has better sensitivity and high linearity in a wide dynamic range. Exper...
متن کاملNear-navigation Grade Quad Mass Gyroscope with Q-factor Limited by Thermo-elastic Damping
This paper presents experimental results on the noise performance of an ultra high quality factor (Q-factor) micromachined silicon Quad Mass Gyroscope (QMG). The device was vacuum sealed at below 0.1mTorr in an LCC package with activated getters, demonstrating the Q-factor better than 1.7 million, along the drive and sense modes, at the 1.6 kHz center frequency. A bias stability of 0.09 deg/hr ...
